Girls Book Group starts on Tuesday January 17th.
Boys Book club members have self selected books from the generas of science fiction and historical fiction. We are looking at various literary elements with a emphasis on theme.
We have practiced sharing our thoughts via a Socratic Seminar process. For the next two weeks, a new group of students will be studying the scientific process as they learn about earthworms.
The first 4th grade club will focus on the scientific process as we learn about the behavior and biology of earthworms through a hands-on investigation.
The classroom teachers have selected students for this first rotation. As the year continues, other students will have the same/similar opportunities. The first girls book club has ended. (in style I might add!) The next week or two will be devoted to getting ready for the upcoming 24 Tournament. The second group of the girls book club will start immediately after.
Coming Soon: 24 Tournament at Hollymead Elementary
April 27 6:00 pm Information went home last week. Students have been practicing and final teams will be determined this week. Students are welcome to attend practice sessions even it they are not trying out for the team. The second group of fourth grade boys are reading everyday. Look for books coming home.
A Boys Book Club begins this week. Although the books will be "fun" reads, we will also be thinking about and exploring important themes.
The exact schedule is yet to be determined, however all classes will get a chance to send students. Of course, the next plan has to be a Girls Book Club! 4th grade biologists have been studying classification, worms, and the scientific process. Monday they designed an experiment to discover if worms can "see."
After concluding worms can "see," they are now investigating where on a worms body they can sense light. After a number of delays, the next group rotation will start on Monday February 1st. Once again the focus will be science process and metacognition.
