Second grade students have been introduced to origami.
Origami can be found at the intersection of math, engineering, art, and craft. Students enthusiastically tackled projects. Although they thought they were just having fun, along the way they learned about sequencing, focus, perseverance, self-esteem, cooperative work, spatial reasoning, and -of course- countless mathematical terms and concepts.
As we debriefed the activity students begin to realize how frustration leads to feelings of success, and the degree of frustration is directly related to the how good the success feels!
Parents, if you are being lobbied to purchase origami paper or books, look the the origami page for guidance.
